"Practicing silence" is illusory and misleading, for silence is nothing which could be perceived. This is what is repeated again and again and Nicholas is not ready to listen, because he lives in the dream of "nothing matters".
It matters, whether man understands or not that EVERY thought is illusory and not real, and this includes "practicing silence" too.
Spiritual teachers, which are supposed to be awakened, are trapped in "Nothing matters", "It is obvious", "It is your direct experience", "Let's meet in silence" and they are not aware that this is an incomplete understanding. Therefore such phrases remain as knowledge in the mind of the listener. This is how life maintains the illusory world as real to the ego. Understand mind as sound.

I never claimed "nothing matters", I never claimed to understand or have knowledge of anything, I never claimed to be a spiritual teacher.
I don't mind these labels either but it only reflect your interpretation. Which is not right or wrong, it is just another finite interpretation in the infinite interpretation that can unfold. I am not locked in on one interpretation or another, I am open to them all.
There seems to be a process to 'awakening' which has a duration, but there is no final arrival point. The closest point to an ultimate realization is realizing that there is no final arrival point. Nothing can ever be known for sure, the experiences that unfold are infinite. Truth is equally every infinite experience. There is nowhere to land or reference-point to say that you know or understand anything for sure.
There can be a resonating to what is said or not. But we cannot know for sure if our subjective experiences match since there is no way to prove subjective experience and there is no way to confirm if our subjective experiences are correct even to ourselves. Therefore nothing can ever be known for sure or trusted to be actual, even direct experience. Since experiences always come and go and yet experience itself still seems to unfold, the only conclusion there is, is that there is no conclusion. Haha Very strange but ultimately the only absolute free-fall.
The vastness of any experience is much fuller than any interpretation you can have about it. The inherent infinite nature of reality is unresolved. I see the fullness in the question mark. I leave it wide open to be as it is, whatever that is. If everything in life makes sense to you, I would question your mental health. Even what is known is questioned here because I can't know if what I know is known at all, since there is no knower to know it.
You can say that "It matters, whether man understands or not that EVERY thought is illusory and not real" but another way would be to see that the intelligence of being works by not solving anything, but by incorporating everything and working from that space of wholeness rather than separation of who understands and who doesn't.
Nicholas did not wake-up to enlightenment, nobody does. The biggest duality is that there are some who understand and some who do not understand. Everyone is being exact what they are and there is perfection in that, for how it is work any other way than the way it is working?
I just do my part in what I can and I leave the rest to the universe, for the universe is the only thing here and the only doer and yet reality is even more subtler than any idea you can have about it. It is even subtler than both ideas of doer and non-doer.
Can you fall into the not-understanding or not-knowing and free fall into that?
Of course the question is not directly to you, for nothing being said is personal and yet it can seem that way until it doesn't and no amount of "understanding words as sound" or "practicing silence" or anything else you (or I) can say or do is going to bring that about.
